Walking Breaks in the Scottish Highlands

Lochletter Lodges, self catering accommodation could not be better placed for walking breaks in the Scottish Highlands. There are walks for everyone within an easily accessible distance. These include tracks immediately adjacent to the lodges into the forestry woods, local walks in Drumnadrochit overlooking Loch Ness, the Great Glen Way passing through Drumnadrochit and the more challenging Munros and Corbetts as close as 30mins drive away.
There are also excellent cycling tracks for all abilities. |

Locally the woods behind the lodges stretch from Drumnadrochit up to Shenval and Corrimony Cairn and there are a number of circular walks with spectacular views of the hills further west, and down towards Drumnadrochit to look over Loch Ness. The woods are also ideal for early morning jogs or for longer runs!
Drumnadrochit also has a network of walks that vary in length and grades. The woods above the village is owned by the Woodland Trust and has the famous Queen Mary's rock which has views over the village to Loch Ness.
The Great Glen Way passes through Drumnadrochit, and visitors to the lodges have spent the week walking it and coming back to the comfort of the lodges each evening. It can also be walked in sections, and does not need to be completed in one visit.

Abriachan Forest is a 20 minute drive from the lodges, and also offers spectacular views across Loch Ness. It is owned by the Abriachan Forest Trust and not only has way marked walks of varying distances, but it is a haven for children with a tree house, round house, illicit still, a hide to view the bird life on the loch, a barbeque area and many other exciting finds. It has shorter walks for wheelchair users.
There are also a number of mountain bike trails for the experienced and less experienced riders. Coastal walks are to the east, and there are many lovely long sandy beaches in the Nairn area, on the Black Isle and Dornoch further north. |
Glen Affric is said to be one of the most beautiful glens in the Scottish Highlands. On the way up the glen there are a number of way marked walks, in and around Dog Falls, and at the car park at the end of the road. There is a path around Loch Affric and hills surrounding the loch offer have a number of Munros for those with more experience of hill walking.
Water Falls can be seen wherever you travel in the area, and there are 2 nearby. Plodda Falls is a 30 minute drive and can be viewed from the top of the fall and half way down. It is spectacular after rain not only from the amount of water but also the noise! Divach Falls are above Drumnadrochit.
