Cycling in the Scottish Highlands

Lochletter Lodges, self catering accommodation is situated a few miles from Drumnadrochit, and has a variety of cycling opportunities for all types of cyclist, from beginners to extreme cycling. The accommodation has a shed where bikes can be stored and locked up.

There are also excellent walking tracks for all abilities.

Cycling in Glen Urquhart

Family Cycling
From the lodges there is a track that joins up with the forestry tracks at the back of the lodges. Glenurquhart forest has a number of tracks that stretch from the top of the glen at Shenval to Drumnadrochit. Abriachan Forest is a 20 minute drive, and has a varied selection of mountain bike tracks, as well as a children's bike park. There are also a number of other forestry commission woods in the area with suitable cycling for the family.

Forestry Commission
The forestry commission has issued a leaflet on Cycling in the Great Glen, and this is available at the lodges. The leaflet has broken down the route into 12 sections, so that cyclists can pick and choose those most suitable for their needs. The Great Glen route is 80 miles long and begins at Fort William passing through Invergarry, Fort Augustus and Drumnadrochit en route to Inverness.

Extreme Cycling
In the forest at the back of the lodges there is a bike park for those who need an adrenalin kick. There is more information available on the Forestry Commission'sBalnain Bike Park web page. The park is not built for beginners and it is important to have the correct bike and safety equipment.
